There are loads of convertible cars out there that you could call classic cars, however only a few stand out as a convertible AND a muscle car all in one, and that’s the classic 1969 red Corvette convertible Stingray.
The first time I ever drove a 1969 Corvette it was like lift-off at Cape Canaveral Air Force base, the sides rumbled and the engine shook as I pounded through the gears forcing me snug into the bucket seat. It was summer and there was no feeling like it. The only air conditioning these vintage convertibles came with were the option to put the top down. It’s raw power.
A classic sports car from this period is unmistakable, the thing that makes the Corvette Stingray so memorable however is the massive nose and throaty groan of it’s big block. Not to mention the wide tires and sport rims that demolish asphalt without even touching the pedal.
There are some real aficionados and collectors out there who know their Corvettes and thankfully enough of them were sold so they’re not impossible to come by in great condition. If you want to own a classic american car make sure it’s red, and you’d be nuts not to consider owning a 1969 Corvette convertible Stingray.
