Rule #1. Find Something You Like
I can’t stress this point enough: find something you like. Whether that’s a color, a pattern, a style, a period. Whatever gets your heart racing, follow that. Collecting should be fun and there’s so much out there to find if you know what you’re looking for!
Rule #2. All In The Family
Aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, second cousins, when you ask family if they have any antique teacups they are more apt to pass them along to you when the time is right, why? Because the teacup will stay in the family. And who knows what aunt Edna has packed away in those dusty boxes in the garage! And don’t stop there, continue the search by asking your neighbours family!
Rule #3. No Bones About It
Between porcelain and bone china, bone is the most durable. You can tell it’s bone by it’s glassy translucent coating. Bone also brings out the color of a pattern on a teacup and can really look stunning sitting on a shelf in a collection.
Those are just a few rules to get you started. Collecting antique teacups is an exciting hobby and one you can really get into. Good luck and remember to have fun!
